| Frontera Healthcare Network's History |
Frontera Healthcare Network is the result of a multiple county effort to preserve access to quality healthcare in each of the communities of Eden, Menard and Mason. The organization was formed in 2005 and contributions from the Eden Economic Development Corp, Spirit of Eden fund and the Office of Rural Community Affairs were combined to pay for organizational and grant writing fees. The application was submitted in 2006 for a section 330 grant from Health and Human Services to help with the growing need to provide care to the uninsured and medically underserved. Frontera is a private non-profit organization with nine Board of Directors, three representing each county served, that a majority receive their medical care at one of the clinics.
July 2007 - Frontera was notified that the grant had been awarded and efforts began to convert the Eden and Menard medical clinics (previously Concho County Hospital Clinics) to Frontera clinics.
October 29th, 2007 - Frontera officially opened and began managing the Eden and Menard Clinics as well as operating a Business Office in Eden.
December 2008 - In early 2008, preparations were being made to include the Mason Clinic into the Frontera Network. Through a joint partnership with Llano Memorial Hospital and Scott & White Hospital, FHN added Mason to its clinics on December 1, 2008
December/January 2008 - 340b pharmacies were opened in both Eden and Menard. These limited formularies pharmacies provided access to mostly acute care medicines at very competitive prices.
January 2009 - Plans were made to open the Menard Dental under the direction of Dr. Richardo Ochinang. The Dental Clinic was opened and began seeing patients on a part time basis, but quickly filled with patients.
March 2009 - Applied for Increased Demand Services Grant to help recruit and provide another provider.
June 2009 - Applied for and received funding for Capital Improvement Project funds to provide equipment and remodeling of Menard and Mason Clinics and Renovation and Equipment for the new location in Eden.
November 2009 - In partnership with Concho County Hospital, Eden Foundation for Health and the Spirit of Eden Fund, construction of a new clinic was being build to serve the needs of our patients in our community. We were in a 2 room, 1100 square foot facility that 3 providers had tojuggle patients around in to a 4100 square foot facility that has 4 treatment rooms and 2 procedure rooms.
July 2010 - Frontera moved into the new clinic in Eden.
